AI, Love, and the Data You Don't Own

What does my new GPT say about the state of the AI world?

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and while many will be exchanging chocolates and flowers, let’s talk about a different kind of love: the love affair we are all having with AI.

Right now, you can create a completely personalized Valentine’s card using AI—for free—in just a few minutes. Try it yourself: Make something like this....

But here’s the catch: AI doesn’t always get it right the first time.

And that’s the bigger point.

The Hidden Cost of Free AI

AI is only as good as the prompts we feed it. Garbage in, garbage out. The better your input, the better the result. But while we’re training AI to give us better responses, we’re also giving away something far more valuable: our data.

Most people don’t realize that when they interact with tools like ChatGPT, they are not building their own AI. Instead, they are reinforcing models owned and controlled by large tech companies. Every refined prompt, every feedback loop, every correction—we are teaching the AI, but we don’t own what we teach.

Why AI Forgetfulness Is a Feature, Not a Bug

AI models like GPT-4o don’t remember individual conversations. This is intentional, a safeguard against long-term data accumulation that could create privacy issues. But while your personal chats might be temporary, the collective learning from millions of users is not.

Big tech companies collect and refine these interactions to improve their AI models. They own the intelligence that emerges from your insights. This means that while you’re tweaking AI-generated content, you are—whether knowingly or not—participating in a global unpaid training program that benefits companies, not individuals.

Who Controls the Future of AI?

Imagine if every lesson you taught was immediately forgotten, but your student went on to make billions based on everything they learned from you. That’s what’s happening right now with AI. We pour in our knowledge, creativity, and effort, but we don’t get a share in the intelligence we help develop.

That’s why it’s critical for businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals to think differently about AI.

Rather than simply using pre-built AI models, owning your own AI systems is the next step.

AI isn’t just a fun tool. It’s a shift in power, ownership, and knowledge. The question is: will you own AI, or will AI own you?

And yes, I know this quickly built AI doesn't do what you want it too straight away and even makes stuff up... Try it yourself:

BUT THAT'S MY POINT :) I also know this doesn't really look like me Dan Sodergren ...
